Welcome to the start of the Summer Term. It feels quite strange saying that when we are not all together in school but instead are all keeping safe at home. We hope that you have been continuing with your school work at home but also having lots of fun with your family.
Many of you will have worked through initial closure information that we sent home and are now ready for a new challenge to keep you busy. This half term we were going to be starting our new topic, ‘The Good Old Days’. We were going to start this topic by reading ‘Dogger’ by Shirley Hughes, which we thought we could now share with you at home and suggest some activities linked to the story that you might like to complete.
In addition to this we would also like you to continue reading regularly, practising your phonics and completing daily maths activities.
It is important that you continue to read as often as you can, either stories from home or using your Bug Club login. We have set you a range of fiction and non-fiction books linked to the book band that you were reading when you left school. Please read the books and answer the comprehension questions by clicking on the bug image. We will monitor your progress and set you new books to read as and when you need them.
We would also like you to keep practicing the Rocket Words that we sent home so that you are able to read them fluently and without hesitation.
We will be using the online phonic lessons as approved by the Department for Education. These resources can be found on https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP_FbjYUP_UtldV2K_- niWw/featured?disable_polymer=1 You can access the live lessons at 10:30 by clicking on the year 1 link or if you are unable to watch them you can still access it any time after the live lesson by clicking on the link. See DFE phonic guide in the Y1 home learning folder.
Children can also practice their phonics skills using the phonics play website. Please use the login details below:

We would like you to complete a daily online lesson and activities shared by the White Rose Maths Hub: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/ . In school we follow White Rose Maths so these lessons directly link to our curriculum and are the topics that we would have been covering in the classroom. We would like you to start at summer week 1. Don’t worry that it appears we are a couple of weeks behind what White Rose have outlined, we will still be able to cover everything that is expected of the children.
We are also very impressed to see that so many of you have been practising your maths fluency skill on Numbots and we would like to encourage you to keep going with this.
We hope that you find these ideas useful and look forward to seeing some of the fantastic work that you have been doing whilst at home. We are missing all of our amazing Year 1 pupils very much and are looking forward to seeing you all again. Remember to stay home, stay safe and keep smiling!
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch. Love from
Mrs Ellis & Mrs Slater.
