Welcome to the start of the Summer Term. It feels quite strange saying that when we are not all together in school but instead are all keeping safe at home. We hope that you have been continuing with your school work at home but also having lots of fun with your family.
Many of you will have worked through the booklets that we sent home and are now ready for a new challenge to keep you busy. If you haven’t finished them however, keep going. This half term we were going to be starting our new topic, ‘Oh we do like to be beside the seaside’, which would have included reading popular stories set in different locations. The first of these stories being ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’, which we thought we could now share with you at home and suggest some activities linked to the story that you might like to complete.
In addition to this we would also like you to continue reading regularly, practising your phonics and spellings and completing daily maths activities. There are also excellent resources available on BBC Bitesize if any of you would like to explore them.
It is important that you continue to read as often as you can, either stories from home or using your Bug Club login. There are also many free resources online, including those on the Oxford Owl website: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/
To help you with your spellings and phonics there are lots of free resources on the Twinkl website in the Parent Section: www.twinkl.co.uk/resources/parents. We are just starting Term 3a and you can find all of the spelling lists that we would have been learning in this section plus other useful spelling resources There are many online spelling game sites which you will enjoy playing.
We are also very impressed to see that so many of you have been practising times tables using Times Tables Rockstars and would like to encourage you to keep going with this. Remember, in Year 2 we only need to know out multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables so let’s aim to be fantastic at recalling these facts. You also have access to Numbots, which will help you with your fluency skills. In addition to this, we would like you to complete some of the online lessons and activities shared by the White Rose Maths Hub: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/ . These lessons link to our curriculum and are the topics that we would have been covering in the classroom.
See Saw App
Mrs Charltons’s class are trialling the See Saw App which can be used to show your work to you teacher and they can check to see how well you are doing. The trial starts on Monday 4th May and if it’s successful we will be rolling out to all of Y2 and hopefully the rest of school. We hope you enjoy sharing your work through this APP. Please give school any feedback either positive or negative so that we can begin to work more closely with you. Please use the attached information to set up the See Saw App.
We hope that you find these ideas useful and look forward to seeing some of the fantastic work that you have been doing whilst at home. We are missing all of our Year 2 pupils very much and are looking forward to seeing you all again. Remember to stay home, stay safe and keep smiling!
