Welcome to the start of the Summer Term. It feels quite strange saying that when we are not all together in school but instead are all keeping safe at home. We hope that you have been continuing with your school work at home but also having lots of fun with your family.

Many of you will have worked through the booklets that we sent home and are now ready for a new challenge to keep you busy. If you haven’t finished them however, keep going. At school, we would have been starting to think about moving on to secondary school and would have begun to think about our new schools and the skills that we need so that we are ready for the challenges ahead! There would also have been the dreaded SATs as well as lots of fun activities. We aren’t sure when schools will reopen but are hoping that you will be one of the first year groups back and that we can do some of the great things we had planned. To help you cope with all the changes we have decifed to have a mini topic focus upon staying positive. The tasks you have been set for the next couple of weeks are designed to look at the positives during this current situation, to keep us thinking positive, feeling positive and having fun! We will be sending you activities linked to our topic every two weeks to complete and we look forward to sharing your work.

In addition to this we would also like you to continue reading regularly, practising your spellings and completing daily maths activities. There are also excellent resources available on BBC Bitesize if any of you would like to explore them.

It is important that you continue to read as often as you can, either stories from home or using your Bug Club login. There are also many free resources online, including those on the Oxford Owl website: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

To help you with your spellings there are lots of free resources on the Twinkl website in the Parent Section: www.twinkl.co.uk/resources/parents. We are just starting Term 3a and you can find all of the spelling lists that we would have been learning in this section plus other useful spelling resources. There are many online spelling game sites which you will enjoy playing.

We are also very impressed to see that so many of you have been practising times tables using Times Tables Rockstars and would like to encourage you to keep going with this. We will be checking to see who our top mathematicians are and posting the results on our weekly newsletter so keep practising.

In addition to this, we would like you to complete some of the online lessons and activities shared by the White Rose Maths Hub: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-6/. These lessons link to our curriculum and are the topics that we would have been covering in the classroom. Please start at summer week 1.

We hope that you find these ideas useful and look forward to seeing some of the fantastic work that you have been doing whilst at home. We are missing all of our Year 6 pupils very much and are looking forward to seeing you all again. Remember to stay home, stay safe and don’t stress about the future because I’ts out of our hands at the moment but soon we will be back together having fun!
