Art at Knop Law

Art and Design is the creation and appreciation of traditional and new media. The study of art enables pupils to understand appreciate and contribute to a dimension of life that taps into and expresses human innovation, imagination and thought.

At Knop Law Primary School, our Art and Design curriculum offers children a high level of creative and engaging experiences that inspires children to take risks, learn new skills and support the building of the next generation of artists and designers. We are committed to nurturing our student’s artistic skills and helping them find joy in creative expression. Children are supported to think critically and develop a good understanding of their own work of art, with opportunities to evaluate and analyse.

Children are opened up to wide range of subject focused vocabulary that they can build on as they progress throughout school. Within the curriculum we study numerous artists and designers and make links to their historical and cultural understanding. Our curriculum is supported by Access Art, a scheme that focuses on allowing children to reach their creative potential and build on their knowledge of understanding of materials and techniques.

As children move through school we focus on creativity and place an emphasis on encouraging exploratory journeys, supporting varied and individual outcomes. Children are supported to appreciate and interpret what they observe, communicate what they think and feel, or make what they imagine and invent.
